Ok, so you’ve got a fantastic second-hand vehicle you’d like to sell through Island Motors. Great! We make it super easy for you to find trustworthy buyers in Grenada – in fact, you’ll probably find it tons easier than having to go through dealerships or putting up paper ads!

However, there are a few steps you’ll need to take to make sure your ad really shows off your car in the best possible light. Before you go ahead and start getting creative, make sure to read and digest the following tips so you stand a solid chance of getting the sale (and price) you want.

Fill out the specifics

First of all, let’s not skimp on the specifics. Chances are, the buyers who really want your vehicle are probably looking for a certain make and model, and might even be restricted by location.

Thankfully, these details are super easy to fill out on the “sell your car” form. As you can see below, there’s spaces for you to add your location (and you can use location services to be precise), a drop-down box to choose from several well-known makes, and a free text box where you can tell us about the model.

How to sell your car

Once you’ve got these details down pat, remember to add photos of your car. Yes, it’s optional, but it’s recommended that you’re upfront about what your vehicle actually looks like!

After you’ve uploaded photos that show your car in a fantastic light, we can finally get to actually writing the ad!

Be brief, but thorough

Anyone looking to buy your vehicle isn’t going to want to read paragraph after paragraph. It’s best to get straight to the point and to really show off what makes your car unique (and worth the price tag!).

So, write a rough draft of what you’d like to say about your vehicle, and point out anything you’ve added to the vehicle over the years that might help it sell. You should also be clear about any servicing it’s received, its tax status, and its mileage.

Try not to get too salesy. After all, it’s our job to really push your vehicle to the masses. Just stick to the information that you’d want to know as a prospective buyer. What can you add to really sweeten the deal without coming across as pushy?

Read your ad back a few times and make sure you don’t waffle about certain specifics. Remember how it feels to go shopping around a car lot and to put up with the hard sell – that’s what you want to avoid!

Be honest

Honesty isn’t optional when it comes to selling vehicles online, and here at Island Motors, we pride ourselves on serving up used car ads that are the genuine article.

That means, of course, being super clear about imperfections and any issues you may have experienced with your vehicle during your ownership. Don’t drag your listing down by making it out to be a rustbucket – but, don’t shy away from mentioning where you, say, have had to replace wing mirrors, or that the suspension has required extra attention over the last few services.

Failing to be honest about your vehicle listing will leave your buyer feeling like they’ve been used – imagine how you’d react in their shoes. Honesty applies to the photos you take, too, so always make sure they’re clear and recent – we’ll share some more tips on how to take great photos of your car for your listing soon.

Honesty in the text of your ad, however, means getting specific, again, about certain stats – mileage, again, is a big factor that can make or break a sale. An honest ad for a legitimately great value car will find a top buyer in no time.

And, being honest also means being unafraid to talk about your car’s strengths! As mentioned in the last section, think of unique selling points that make this potential buy an absolute must-have.

Use clear language

The most effective car advertisements leave no room for interpretation. That means keeping your language simple as well as your descriptions short. The simpler the language, the broader the audience, too – and the less room for interpretation, the less hassle you can expect when it comes to actually selling your car.

No one wants to have to second-guess what it is you’re trying to sell, or what your intentions are. Buyers just want to be able to look at your ad, decide that your car’s right for them, pay for it, and to come and collect it! Again, think about what you’d do in their shoes.

Read it back to yourself and make edits

As with all good writing, be ready to make edits! Read your car ad back to yourself, aloud if it helps, and fix any spelling or grammar mistakes. After all, you won’t come across well if your ad seems like it’s been sloppily written!

Island Motors makes it super quick and easy to sell your car online to people across Grenada. But, half the magic is in the ad you write – have a go and we’ll help you find the right buyer in no time.
