Let’s face it, as SUVs go, Land Cruisers are among the most reliable and popular out there. When looked after, they’ve proven to endure years of use, careful or otherwise.

Fans of Toyota’s iconic SUV line will be glad to know that the 2024 Land Cruiser is very nearly here – and if initial impressions are anything to go by, it promises to pack a serious punch.

For one thing, one of the most impressive (and maybe even potentially alarming) things about the new Land Cruiser is its price. As price tags go, it’s relatively cheap compared to older models – coming in at around $57,345 inside the US. And, while that isn’t exactly low-budget by definition, it is considerably more affordable than the $86,880 US buyers had to part with for the last model.

So, why is it so much more affordable?

For one thing, this Land Cruiser arrives considerably smaller than its predecessor. It’s also around 4.4 inches narrower and approximately 1.2 inches shorter than the previous release, supposedly making it even easier to take off-road. Believe the experts – you’re going to need to see its handling for yourself.

Beyond this, the new Land Cruiser for 2024 comes with a turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid powertrain, built to offer greater fuel economy than the previous release. That means motorists can expect to pay less both at point of sale and in the long run for this vehicle. Good to know!

Toyota, however, is making choices difficult for buyers, with two models in the 2024 line set to launch – the standard Land Cruiser and the Land Cruiser 1958. Both have the same original design, but the 1958 seems to be the “simpler” model in that it is a straight-to-the-point off-road vehicle.

Fans of off-road luxury will also want to prioritize paying for the default Cruiser, as it’s a little more modern inside. That said, both boast the same five seats and connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Not everyone’s going to find a five-seat setup appealing, but this setup at least offers impressive flexibility for family road trips – it promises to be a big smash for certain markets before the year’s out.

Naturally, you’re going to want to know some stats. The 2024 Land Cruiser pulls out of the showroom with a 2.4-liter turbocharged inline-four alongside its 48-horsepower electric motor with automatic transmission at eight speeds.

Overall, the total system output is 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque – in four-wheel drive. And, while that does pack plenty of a punch, it’s still less powerful than the previous Cruiser, which pushes an impressive 55 horsepower more.

Overall, the new Land Cruiser promises to be a quality SUV, especially for the price. Yes – it’s still a pretty hefty investment if you’re not buying on finance, but take a look at the previous price tags in the same range. Time will tell, but right now, we think you’re getting a pretty good deal.
